With such a solid format and year’s to study Jon Stewart, I think most performers could have handled taking over the Daily Show. Trevor Noah did just fine and excited to see his hone his skills over time and make the Daily Show his own.
Unfortunately, for Stephen Colbert, he left this type of format and had to get sucked into the black hole of the Late Show format with a monologue, a band and guests that have nothing interesting to say except that they’re promoting a book or movie. I like the Daily Show & Colbert Report format, it works and is of today. Having the band seems so Johnny Carson to me and what was over 50 years ago? If we can’t evolve slightly in 50 years, the people in charge are sleepers and to put them down, they must be shot in the head.
Trevor Noah has been handed a golden ticket and expect to see him blow up over the next 20 years. I hope he will be as socially responsible & motivating as Jon Stewart. It could be curious because Trevor is just learning the U.S. political system and players, where as, Jon had a long standing disgust and knowledge base. So I hope that Jon is Cyrano de Bergerac’ing Trevor for years to come. It’s a lot to take in.
Just my oponion.
